Dear Friends, our family is sad to learn of Wade's passing. He and Chris were always such good friends to my parents when we were growing up in Tulsa. I remember our parents packing all us kids up to go on pecan picking picnics and we always had a good time when you came to Wisconsin to visit. He and Chris were a very loving couple. It is wonderful to see the pictures here of all of you. Just wanted to let you know, our family is thinking of you and remembering Wade for all the things that made him so special to so many people. This is another one from my teenage years. I loved to play tennis. Dad would happily volunteer to play with me when I was unable to find anyone else up for the challenge. He would run all over the court, chasing my errant shots, while wearing his work boots and his gold-colored one-piece jumpsuit. And his pockets were always filled with change and keys so he jingled with every step! Of course, no one cared. I know he didn't particularly enjoy these tennis outings... he just did it to make me happy. That's how he was. Helen

Of course, I have so many fun memories of Dad. But my favorites involve fishing. One of the best was the time Dad and I decided to explore "Lee's Creek." I was maybe 17 years old. He and I got up about 3 am, each drove a car (one with the canoe loaded on top), and headed for the wilds of far eastern Oklahoma ("Deliverance" music appropriate here). We left one car parked where we thought we might be able to pull out of the creek, then drove upriver in the car with the canoe on top. I think Dad had read a newspaper article about fishing in Lee's Creek because he knew where we could launch the canoe to begin our float trip. We thought is was going to be an easy day. We were wrong. It was a long, tough day of carrying the canoe around unexpectedly rough water. Wonderful adventures, but not many fish. I was completely exhausted by the time we finished out trip and reached the second car. Then we had to load up the canoe, drive back to the other car, and drive back to Tulsa in a torrential rain storm. And to think we undertook this great adventure without cell phones! But I felt courageous because Dad and I had done all of this, just the two of us.
I miss you, Dad!

I remember the first time I met Grandpa Wade...I had just met James at the "Reindeer Roundup Dance" at age 15 and 4 days later James and I went to the movie 'Titanic' for our first matinee date. (I'll mention here, for James' sake that James only went to that movie because that was the only 'date movie' showing at the time and he got extra credit for one of his classes at school if he brought back the ticket stub.) After the movie, we went to Wade and Chrissy's house to 'meet the Grandparents' and they both accepted me with open arms. I never knew either of my grandfathers, so Wade was my 'adopted Grandpa,' but really I love that he adopted me as one of his grandchildren.
He was the patriarch of "the Holts" and what a wonderful family to be part of. I will remember for the rest of my life what a special moment it was for the family to all be gathered around him as last prayers were said, goodbyes were made, he drew his last breaths, and got to go to his eternal home. He is certainly watching over us, smiling, and so proud to be a guardian angel to us all, especially Chrissy.
