Obituary of Robert Applehans

Applehans -Robert B., 88 yrs., passed on March 3rd, 2006 at University Village, Tulsa. Born, April 24,1917 to George W. and Mae Dolores (Kolb)Applehans, Chicago, he attended Northwestern University (Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity) where he met Frances Williamson, his wife of 64 years. After 5 yrs. in the Army Air Corps, WWII (Food Services) they settled their family in Palatine, IL. (Chgo. N.W.). He owned and operated the A&O Glass Co. and later, graduating from American Floral Art School, worked additionally in floral and landscape design and oil painting. Always family focused and supportive, he gave 25 volunteer years to BSA, mainly as Cub and Boy Scout Master and Eagle Board of Review. He was Order of the Arrow Brotherhood and received the "Silver Beaver Award" from Northwest Suburban Council, IL., and the "Outstanding Service Award" from Ozark Council, MO. Moving to Branson in '71, Bob pursued his fishing hobby, became a Realtor and together they criss-crossed the country visiting children and their families and began 2 decades as World Travelers. In Bixby, OK ('85) he was a Red Cross Blood Service Volunteer and donor for 15 years. They were active at Trinity Presbyterian Church, Tulsa and are now members of Hope Unitarian Church. Preceding him in death was his only sibling, Betty (and husband, Walter Olson). Surviving are his wife, Fran, 4 children -sons: Robert B., Jr. of Hideaway, TX.; Stephen George (wife, Candance) of Grayslake, IL.; Kenneth Lee (wife, Deanna) of Menomonie, WI.; and daughter, Mary Frances Fry-Fousel (husband Boyd) of Bixby. 13 grandchildren among them Lindsay Marie and Stephen Goodwin Fry; 11 great-grandchildren and four nieces. Memorial Services: Saturday, March 11th at 2pm, at Hope Unitarian Church, 8432 Sheridan Rd., Tulsa-74133. Officiating: Rev. Jack Bryant of Hope Unitarian, and Rev.
