CARVER, Newton George, born February 26, 1919 in Jackson, TN to George Ras Carver and Ollie Bell McCord, entered the Heavenly Kingdom Wednesday, September 17, 2008, joining his first wife, Mary, in Heaven.
He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Marilyn, sons Mike Carver (Nancy), Arlington, TX, Steve and Richard Carver of Tulsa, stepdaughter Joan Chapman Hatley and stepson, David Chapman (Missie), both of Tulsa. He is also survived by eight grandchildren: Dawn Fairchild (Mike), Kim Thibeaux (Jason), and Todd Carver (Michelle), all of Arlington; Chase Carver, Crystal Chapman, Daxon Chapman, Dylan Hatley, Jonathan Hatley, Bronwyn Tawney, and Cecily Tawney, all of Tulsa. Also six great grandchildren: Austin, Karli, and Jayden Fairchild, Jordan and Ashlyn Thibeaux, all of Arlington, and Danica Chapman, of Tulsa. He is survived by one sister, Frances Fitch of Olive Branch, MS.
Newt (or N.G.) entered the U.S. Army September 1941, serving in the European theater of WWII with the Eighth Armored Division, finally returning to the U.S. November 1945. He studied at Union University and Tulsa University, receiving a BA in preparation for his career in music and education in Southern Baptist churches. Coming to Tulsa in 1950, he has served Hillcrest Baptist, Nogales Avenue Baptist, Eastwood Baptist, and Memorial Baptist churches. He also served Central Baptist (Muskogee) and First Baptist (Enid). In 1973 Newt left the Ministry to go into the sale of cemetery property and insurance. At the urging of Marilyn, Newt joined her in singing in the Chorus of six productions of the Tulsa Opera between 1974 and 1979. His two hobbies, vegetable gardening and custom woodworking, have given much pleasure to many folks. His artistry with wood is his lasting legacy.
Family will receive friends 4-6 P.M. Sunday and service at 10 a.m. Monday, September 22, 2008 both at Ninde Woodland Chapel, 5757 S. Memorial with entombment at Floral Haven Mausoleum.
