Obituary of Patricia Saunders

Patricia Margueret Saunders passed away surrounded by family at her bedside on Sunday June 22, 2008. She was born in Detroit, MI on May 18, 1925 and lived her early life in Detroit and Tulsa. She graduated from Central High School in Tulsa and attended the University of Oklahoma, Norman where she was a member of Delta Delta Delta sorority and President of Theta Sigma Phi, an honorary journalism fraternity. While attending OU, she was editor of the Oklahoma Daily and associate editor of Covered Wagon. Graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism, Pat went on to work for the Tulsa Tribune as society editor and women's feature writer. After that Pat moved to Chicago and worked for the International News Service as a general reporter and feature writer. After a brief stint working in Dallas, Pat settled back in Tulsa and worked for the Phillips Agency, then started her own Advertising agency with partner Pete Mace, Mace-Saunders Advertising Agency. Pat was a winner of numerous awards in Tulsa, Dallas, Chicago, and ADDIES locally and regionally for creativity in print and broadcast. Pat was a proud, long-time member of the First Presbyterian Church in Tulsa. During the last 20 years of her life, Pat found most enjoyment in her work as a "Gillie" giving tours, and volunteering at the Gilcrease Museum. Pat's passion in life other than her cats was her love of travel and culture; which, thankfully, was able to do up to the last weeks of her life. Pat had a host of friends in church groups, civic groups, volunteering, and in her beloved Harvard Park community. Pat was known for her strong will, generous spirit and creativity. Pat is survived by her niece and husband, Meg and Brad Herman of Houston, her nephew and his wife, Dr. and Mrs. Jerome Satterlee of New Orleans, great nieces and nephews, Jennifer and James Torres of Houston, Leslie Herman of Austin, and Patricia "Katie" Herman of Stillwater and Martine Satterlee and Seth Satterlee of New Orleans. Pat deeply touched the lives of those who knew her and will surely be missed. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Gilcrease Museum, St. Francis Hospice, or the Animal Aide of Tulsa.
