Please share a memory of Lucille to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Langley, Lucille W., 87, passed away on Wednesday, March 19, 2008. Lucille was born April 27, 1920 in Plymouth, Nebraska to her parents Henry Herman and Hannah Louise (Schulz) Roschewski. Upon graduation from Beatrice High School she met and married L.J. (Shorty) Langley and moved to Tulsa, OK where he worked at the Midcontinent Refinery (DX Sun Oil Company).
Lucille is predeceased by her parents, her husband; her sister, Milda Cumpston; her brothers, Clarence Roschewski, Earl Roschewski, and Dean Roschewski. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Margaret Ann & Ron Butler of Tulsa, Oklahoma; her son and daughter-in-law, Larry Dean & Kathy Langley of Scottsdale, Arizona; her sister, Irene Nichols of Beatrice, Nebraska; her sister-in-law, Viola Roschewski of Lewiston, Nebraska; her grandchildren, Lisa Costello, Mark Langley, Kathryn (Katie) Langley, Tresa Helm, Devin Blust, Scott Butler and his wife Cayla Butler, and Laura Butler; her great grandchildren, Emily Costello Hayly Helm, Shelby Helm, Taryn Young, Jacque Butler, and Autumn Butler; as well as many loving nieces and nephews; her church family and friends.
She and Shorty answered the call from Pastor Henkel to start a new Lutheran Church in the Brookside area. She went door to door canvassing for people interested in a new Lutheran Church and they began holding services in Paul Revere Elementary School at 51st & Lewis prior to purchasing the property at 48th & Lewis where Ascension is now. She and Shorty moved from the Redfork area to their home of over 50 years at 1045 E. 53rd Street closer to the church. She dedicated her life to Ascension holding many positions from Sunday School Teacher to Evangelistic Chairman and for 50 years was the historian for the church keeping scrapbooks of photos and memorabilia of weddings, baptisms, confirmation classes, and special events. And we all know she baked the best homemade chocolate chip cookies, which she often brought to the church for special occasions.
For a few years she sold AVON products, which was a natural for her since she was used to going door to door for a purpose. However, her customers knew her as a friend. She loved to sew and created arts and crafts she took to area shows to sell, which always included special items for children. And until she could no longer sew, she made special keepsakes for her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She had a special fondness for every child she encountered.
We all will remember her smile and hugs and willingness to help. If someone needed a ride to the doctor or help in the church kitchen or someone to talk to, she was there for them. Even in her final years when her memory failed, she would still offer to help others. Somehow she instinctively knew when a caregiver was having a bad day, which she would cure with a special loving hug.
That special love she shared with everyone will be missed by all of us, but will be remembered in all of our hearts forever.
A funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday at the Ascension Lutheran Church, 4803 S. Lewis, with interment at Memorial Park Cemetery.
