Obituary of Gloria McFarland

McFarland, Gloria Grimes, was born October 21, 1937 in Tulsa, OK to Oscar and Velva (Cowen) Grimes. She passed from this life Tuesday, March 18, 2008 at the age of 70. Gloria was the granddaughter of C.W. and Josephine Grimes, for whom Grimes Elementary School was named. Gloria was raised in Tulsa and often spent summers at the family cabin in Deer River, MN. She attended the University of Colorado where she was member of Kappa Kappa Gamma and received her degree from Oklahoma State University. In 1962, she married Edward L. McFarland. She was a devoted member of First Presbyterian Church where she was a Deacon, Elder and Chairman of the Christian Service Board. Gloria was a member of the Board of Trustees of the University of Tulsa where she was also active in the TURC Program (Tulsa Undergraduate Research Challenge). She was active in the Junior League of Tulsa holding several officer positions, including president. She served on the boards of the YWCA, Arts and Humanities Council, Philbrook Museum of Art and President of Tulsa Town Hall. Gloria worked with Williams Realty of The Williams Companies and later with Walter and Associates as a real estate broker associate. She is survived by her daughters and son-in-law, E. Marie and Todd Scribner and Anne McFarland; her grandson, Duncan McFarland Scribner; her sisters, JoAnn Goetz of Horseshoe Bay, TX and Mary Nagode of Atlanta, GA. In lieu of flowers, friends may contribute to the First Presbyterian Church Music Fund, the University of Tulsa TURC Program or Philbrook Museum of Art. A memorial service will be held 11:00 am Tuesday at First Presbyterian Church, followed by a reception in The Bernsen Center celebrating the lives of both Gloria and Ed McFarland.
