Obituary of Helen Allen
Please share a memory of Helen to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
After living a blessed and happy 91 years, Helen Marie Allen passed away on Saturday evening, April 19, 2014, surrounded by her friends and with the care of Hospice of Green Country and University Village staff.
Helen was born to Jens and Jennie (Rudd) Hanson on December 6, 1922 in Austin, MN. She was preceded in death by her husband, Walker Benjamin Allen. She is survived by her sister, Ruth Hanson, Austin, MN, her real estate family and many friends.
Always a patriot, Helen was a "Rosie the Riveter" at the Tulsa B17 Bomber Plant during World War II. She and her late husband worked in the Tulsa area for many years. They owned a print shop in downtown Tulsa and later became builders in the Tulsa area. She also worked for PSO and helped launch the "Good Cents Program" for total electric homes. These experiences were the perfect segue for her decades long real estate career. Helen became a licensed REALTOR® in 1970. She was a sales manager for John Hausam Realtors and joined Patterson Realtors in 1988. Helen continued with them when they merged and became Patterson & Associates - Keller Williams Realty Advantage. Helen came to the office every day until January 2014. She was a Charter Member of the Oklahoma Women's Council of Realtors, and is still the only woman to be honored twice as WCR's Woman of the Year. Helen was particularly proud of being named as a Life Member of Greater Tulsa Association of Realtors, a Perpetual Member of the Order of Eastern Star and a member of Ascension Lutheran Church.
Helen never met a stranger. Until her final minutes, she put most of us to shame with her wit, charm and memory. If you needed a fact about Tulsa, she would fill in all the pieces with precise detail.
Helen had a great love of real estate, her real estate family and she taught all she met how to be a better person. She could put you in your place and make you smile at the same time. Helen will be missed more than she can imagine. She is the Landlord of Our Hearts.
A visitation will be held 4-7PM Thursday at the Ninde Brookside Funeral Home and her memorial service will be held 11:00 A.M. Friday at the University Village Retirement Center Stovall Theater.
