Obituary of Florence Shrontz

Please share a memory of Florence to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Florence Loretta (Billie) Shrontz died early Monday morning, April 7th, 99 days short of her 100th birthday after a brief illness. Billie was the fifth and last surviving daughter of Katherine Shulda and John Henry Myers who was one of the signers of Tulsa's 1908 city charter. A life-long Tulsa resident, Billie attended Oklahoma A&M. She also worked at the Douglas Plant during World War II and later became an office manager. She married Dr. Dewey Connor Shrontz in 1949 and had one daughter, Margaret Jill. With Dewey, Billie was a member of the Cosmopolitan Club and she served as president of its Cosmopals group. She was an enthusiastic bowler for the club. Billie was also a long-time active member of the Circle Class at First Methodist Church. She spent her final four years at Oklahoma Methodist Manor (where she had previously volunteered for many years). A widow for almost 40 years, Billie embodied the "can-do" spirit of her father and leaves a legacy of commitment to family and a love of the outdoors which is being carried on by her descendants. She held a special bond with her daughter, son-in-law and with her grandchildren and they with her. She always appreciated their many visits and their helpfulness. Preceding her in death, in addition to her parents and her husband were her sisters Helen, Margaret, Velma and Katherine. She is survived by her loving daughter Jill (husband Derk Tenzythoff), her beloved grandchildren Alan Connor Tenzythoff of Colorado Springs and Anna (husband Dr. Tommy Kern) with great grandchildren Leslie Billie and Conner Parker Kern. Also surviving Billie are nieces and nephew Mae Timmons, Nancy Walls, Jeannie Evans, Katie Alfred and Jack Timmons and their families. The family wants to especially thank the staff of Oklahoma Methodist Manor's Holliman Center for their loving care. A celebration of Billie's life will be held for close friends in the Holliman Center at Oklahoma Methodist Manor Friday from 2 to 3 pm. In lieu of flowers the family suggests that memorials be made in Billie's name to the Oklahoma Methodist Manor, 4134 E. 31st Street, Tulsa, Oklahoma 74135 or to the Hospice of Green Country, 1120 Boston Ave., Tulsa, Oklahoma 74119.
