Obituary of Marcia Vandever
Please share a memory of Marcia to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Marcia Lee (Horton) Vandever was born March 6, 1951 to Lewis Claude & Ilah Mae (Busby) in Kenosha, WI and passed from this life on August 18, 2013 at the age of 62 in Tulsa, OK.
Marcia was very active in P.E.O. (a philanthropic organization where women celebrate the advancement of women; educate women through scholarships, grants, awards, loans, and stewardship of Cottey College; and motivate women to achieve their highest aspirations). She herself was a second generation member and had her daughter initiated as a third generation P.E.O. member. She was a tireless and talented individual who did not know the meaning of giving up. Even battling sickness and when people thought she would be in bed she had the will and desire to get up and go. She possessed a unique talent for singing and playing the piano; she grew up singing in the choir alongside her mother, father and brother. Marcia invested in the youth of our community serving as an educator for over twenty years and serving as a leader for both the Girl and Boy Scouts with her children. She truly brought joy and meaning to all the lives she touched.
Marcia was preceded in death by her father and is survived by her mother; her husband, Steven A. Vandever; her daughter, Catherine Lee Vandever; her son, David Alan Vandever; her brother, William Horton; and her grandson William Alan Vandever.
Marcia will lie in state Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m. with family receiving friends from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at the Ninde Brookside Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at Asbury United Methodist Church, Mason Chapel. She will be laid to rest in a private family committal at Memorial Park Mausoleum.
Donations in Marcia's memory may be made to P.E.O. Chapter EY, 7127 E. 82nd place, Tulsa, OK 74133.
