Obituary of Timothy Joseph Hayes, Sr.
Timothy Joseph “Tim” Hayes, Sr. was born January 1, 1944 in Springfield, Missouri. He passed away peacefully Sunday, November 24, 2024 at his home in Tulsa.
Tim moved with his family to Oklahoma as a young boy, first to Muskogee where he attended Sacred Heart Catholic School. After moving to Tulsa, he attended Edison High School where he made many lifelong friends. Upon graduation, he went on to study at the University of Oklahoma.
Tim began his career in banking at First National Bank, then started his own leasing company, Hayes Leasing, in 1975, which still exists today.
Tim was an avid golfer, and member of Southern Hills Country Club for fifty-four years. He was also a member of Tryall Golf Club in Jamaica. He loved golf, laughter and playing cards with his friends.
He traveled the world, England, Scotland, Botswana, Zambia, New Zealand, and his beloved Jamaica, where he spent many happy days. His dogs were his constant companions, and a great source of joy to him, particularly in his later years. He always said they were the best friends anyone could have.
Tim loved life, and loved people, often saying “I’ve done it all, what more could you ask for?” He always tried to help those who were less fortunate and gave selflessly to those in need. His wonderful laugh and smile will be missed by all who knew him.
Tim is survived by his beloved wife of forty years, Gwen; his son, Timothy Hayes, Jr. and his wife, Meredith; granddaughters, Madeline and Makenzie Hayes; and grandson, Matthew Nolley.
His daughter, Merne and his first wife, Jeanne Grant preceded him in death.
In lieu of flowers, friends may contribute to Hanover Charities USA, Catholic Charities, or the Tulsa SPCA.
A memorial mass will be held for Tim 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 4 at Church of St. Mary.
