Obituary of Robert Dean Herndon

Robert Herndon, 77, of Tulsa, passed away on August 17 at his home. He was surrounded by the love of his family and friends.
Robert was born in Wichita, Kansas on Sunday, December 22, 1946 to Joe and Maxine Herndon and sister JoAnn. When Robert was 13, his mother died of bone cancer. Robert’s father remarried to Maybelle Reynolds Stahl in 1962.
He graduated from Wichita Southeast High School in 1964 and earned a degree in Bible from Oklahoma Christian College in 1968.
Bob was married to the love of his life, Janet Kay Anderson, on October 28th, 1967; they were married for 56 years.
Bob served as a minister in Churches of Christ for most of his life, beginning in 1967. He went on to minister in Medford and Alva, Oklahoma, as well as Wichita, Indianapolis, and Tulsa. Bob retired from preaching in 2014 and began work as a Hospice Chaplain, retiring just prior to his passing. He loved music and art, and he volunteered as a docent at the Philbrook Museum of Art for many years.
Robert is survived by his wife, Janet Herndon, and their children: Travis Herndon and wife Kelly (Wichita); Celeste Dvorak and husband Jim (Burlington, Ontario); Kelsey Herndon and wife Lisa (Edmond). He has 9 grandchildren: Addison, Holland, Kensington, and MacAlister Herndon; Sydney and Hagan Dvorak; Ezra, Kaylen, and Weston Herndon. He is also survived by his step-brother Bruce Stahl and wife Betty. He had many other family and friends whom he loved deeply and well.
The memorial service will be held August 24, 2024 at 3:00 in the afternoon at Harvard Avenue Christian Church in Tulsa. There will be a reception following the service.
