Obituary of Marjorie Lee Ray
Marjorie Lee Ray, affectionately known as Margie, was born on October 23, 1932, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to Gladys Harrison Conner and Walter Lee Conner. Margie attended Wilson grade school and Classen High School graduating in 1950. She attended Oklahoma A&M College obtaining a bachelor’s degree. She was a member of the Kappa Alpha Theta National Sorority and Phi Upsilon Omicron Honor Society.
Following college, she was a stewardess for Braniff Airways embarking on an adventure in the skies during the golden age of airline travel. Margie often spoke of her tour in Europe with friends and the memorable voyage on the Queen Elizabeth and Queen Mary ocean liners.
Shortly after her adventure abroad, Margie met, fell in love and married a dashing young Lt. in the USAF, Ronald O. Ray of Frederick, Oklahoma. For the next 35 years, Margie made her home in Frederick where she lovingly raised her three children, Diana, Ron, and Laurie.
Margie was deeply involved in her community in Frederick. She was an active member of the Methodist Church Choir and leader of the youth group. She led a Cub Scout and Camp Fire group. As her children grew, Margie remained engaged in their activities while also contributing to various civic organizations such as the Women’s Hospital Auxiliary, P.E.O. (an organization where women celebrate the advancement of women), and the Woman’s National Organization. In her spare time, Margie enjoyed golfing with her friends. Margie and Ronald relocated to and spent their remaining years in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Ronald passed in 2014.
She is survived by her three children, Diana Coyle, and her husband, Jack of Naples, Fl, Ronald O. Ray Jr. and his wife, Mary of Tulsa, Ok and Laurie (Heigle) Ray of Oklahoma City, Ok. She is also survived by her six grandchildren, Griffin Coyle, Matt Coyle, Stephanie Rippey, David Ray, Autumn Heigle and Benjamin Heigle. In addition, Marjorie was also blessed with six great grandchildren.
Margie will be remembered for her dedication to her family and her community, having touched many lives throughout her years.
Marjorie Lee Ray’s graveside service will take place at Memorial Park Cemetery in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Date and time to be announced.
