Ken came to Nebraska to watch his nephew Clint play State Basketball for Johnson Brock. They won the class D1 championship in 1997 and again in 1998! Ken attended all the games in both years and fit right in!

Jan, Ken's sister, is my wonderful mother-in-love. Steve Gerdes, nephew of Ken, is my husband. I have always admired how kind Ken was and how relaxed and attentive he was when we spoke. Ken's peaceful presence and warm smile will be missed. I was overwhelmed with joy and gratitude when Marge and Ken came all the way to MN for our wedding in 2000.! We stayed overnight with him once and he gave us his room to use. Ken's generosity was one of his strengths. Jan has shared news with me from their weekly talks; her love for and admiration for her brother was so apparent. We continue to pray for comfort and strength for all of Ken's loved ones during this time of mourning. Rose

I am saddened to hear of Ken Haack’s passing. What a great guy!
Ken was a year ahead of me in school and served as a good example and mentor – through elementary school, middle school, high school, and even through the University of Nebraska. It seems as though when Ken did something and it was working for him, I would follow his example a year later. We played on the same Johnson High School football teams. We were both in the high school band.
When Ken chose Civil Engineering at UNL, I followed suit a year later. We both had summer job experiences with what is now Caltrans. Much of my college social life revolved around Ken and other CE students I met.
In later years, since Ken had chosen Tulsa, Oklahoma as his home and I had chosen Corvallis, Oregon as my home, we didn’t have much face-to-face interaction. But thanks to the internet, we were able to maintain some electronic communication.
I am grateful for my friendship with Ken and all the positive things that resulted from it.
Sincerely,
Dave Rogge

Ken was accomplished in many fields, academics, sports and music. He answered questions I couldn’t. I am thinking, how did he know that, we were in the same class. Must admit he was at a higher intelligence level than I. Ken was a good guy. Never in trouble, always fun to be around. After HS we lost contact as we went separate ways. Last 20 years we shared a lot. We emailed at least once a month. Great to know I had super friend long distance. He did not write much, but I knew he cared. A part of us is now missing.
Godspeed Ken.

Q: What will you never forget about Kenneth?
A: What a great dad to the children and terrific friend and neighbor to us. He was getting the little girls ready for school and had a little trouble fixing their hair. He came over and we had the hair all ready for school.
BC has continue to talk with Ken and felt he was one of his best friends. Ken was just the best and we will miss him.

Kenny(that was how we addressed him) was a year behind me in school. Being a small school, we were able to know everyone and share many activities. Advanced math and science classes were on a two year rotation, so my senior year I was in two classes with him. What a smart person!! He was humble about his abilities and patient with those who needed more assistance. What I remember most about him was his kindness to everyone. I sincerely doubt he deserved a D in citizenship!
Condolences to all his family but especially to his sisters, Jan and Barb. He did a great job of helping to raise them!
This family that I know has the built in kindness gene and I'm sure if I knew his Tulsa family, it has extended to them too.
Prayers and hugs to everyone.

I first met Ken shortly after he started dating Marge! At first he was shy, sat back and quietly chuckled in our conversations. Once he started coming around more to the NALA conventions, he opened up, always willing to help out, and was such a joy to have conversations with! He loved his grandkids and talked about them often! He always asked how things were in ND as he had been there a few times and interested in its oil play! Heaven has truly gained an angel. Hugs to Marge and the family. So obvious from the outside he loved you all so much! Vicki Kunz - as he called me - His ND friend!

My wife, Marylove Thralls, and I have known Ken and Marge for about as long as we have been together and they have bee together. . Ken is and was one of the kindest people I have ever known. The "Big Guy" as I would sometimes call him had infinite patience as illustrated by his forebearance in listening to me spout off with my liberal opinions on virtually any subject. (I reminded Ken that OK used to be a "blue" state, at the same time we recalled some of the great OU-NB football games). When I think of Ken, I think of Marge. What a wonderful life they have had together. They have always seemed so comfortable together, so caring for each other. So well suited temperamentally. I always asked Ken about his family, of course I forget, being Ken's contemporary age wise, what he told me. But Marylove and I look forward to seeing all of you at the memorial service and being reintroduced. It seemed like Ken had a special relationship with Cameron. I recall a "go cart" phase. If someone has a photo of the 2 of them, particularly if Ken is "seated" in a go cart, I would like to see it. Ken and Marge hosted us as overnight guests in from CA, or for social gatherings so we could see our Tulsa friends. Very generous of them but so like Ken and Marge. Perhaps most importantly, Ken was a friend to me. He would text me regularly just to check in, especially if there was a wildfire in the area. I will miss those texts and the calls that followed. I will not miss that mean ass dog, Yoda, who did not have the wisdom to know to be kinder to strangers, His master got that though. Ken was a fine person. The world is a sadder place for his passing. Love to Marge and all of Ken's family and friends. Mike Hackett, Santa Barbara, CA
