Obituary of Jean Renee (Robichaux) Medlock

Please share a memory of Jean to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Jean Renee (Robichaux) Medlock was born on April 18, 1941 in Excelsior Springs, Missouri to Eugene Bissell Robichaux and Laura Coulter Emrick, and she passed away on Wednesday, August 23, 2023 at the age of 82. She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, T. Richard Medlock, M.D., her parents, and a sister, Diane McCullough. She is survived by her daughter, Sherry Keesee of Bixby, Oklahoma; her son, Thomas R. Medlock, Jr. and his wife Julie of Leawood, Kansas; her sister, Yvonne Parker; her brother-in-law, Ed McCullough; 6 grandchildren; and 1 great-grandchild.

Jean was born and raised in Excelsior Springs, Missouri where she graduated from high school in 1958. After visiting the University of Oklahoma on November 16, 1957 and witnessing unranked Notre Dame end OU’s 47-game winning streak, she decided OU was the school for her. Jean was a member of the Kappa Alpha Theta sorority, and she graduated with a degree in elementary education from OU in 1962. During her senior year she was set up on a blind date for the Beta Barn Dance with a first-year medical student named Richard Medlock, an alum of the Beta Theta Pi fraternity at OU,... and the rest is history; they married on June 18, 1963. Jean was an elementary school teacher in Oklahoma City and supported the family during Richard’s medical training, until the family moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma in June 1972.

Jean, known as “Jean Renee” to many, had a contagious laugh, and was always ready to engage in lively conversation, keeping you on your toes. She was observant and direct, with a generous heart. She loved to laugh, dance, play with her grandchildren, and take them swimming in her pool or shopping. And, most of all, Jean was her loving husband’s greatest confidante and partner. They enjoyed their evenings of “porching,” while looking over their beautiful backyard. Richard deeply revered Jean’s wisdom, and he admired and sought her input on all things.

A devoted Tulsan, mother, and wife, Jean was also an active member of St. John’s Episcopal Church for many decades. She remained an avid OU football fan, a converted Kansas basketball fan, and a longtime Kansas City Chiefs fan. Upon Richard’s passing on March 15, 2023, Jean spent the last three months of her life back in the KC area enjoying frequent dinners, visits, and walks around Meadowbrook Park with her many local family members. Jean loved and was loved by her entire family, and we will forever keep her in our hearts.

The memorial service and reception will be held at 2:00pm on Saturday, September 30, 2023 at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The service will be livestreamed on St. John's Episcopal Church Facebook page.
