Obituary of Naomi Jean Kirk

Naomi Jean (Phipps) Kirk August 20, 1928 -- April 27, 2022 You make known to me the path of life; in your presence there is fullness of joy; Psalm 16:11 Naomi Jean Kirk stepped out of her earthly body into the loving arms of Jesus Wednesday morning, April 27, 2022—a glorious reality we can’t fully comprehend. We grieve the loss of her time with us but rejoice knowing she is completely whole, surrounded and filled by the love and presence of the Lord. Jean was born in Erick, Oklahoma, but spent most of her childhood in Amarillo, TX where her extended family lived. It was a regular occurrence for she and her siblings to spend time with all their cousins in the neighborhood. Jean learned the value of hard work at a very young age caring for her family even to the point of quitting High School to get her GED so she could work fulltime to help support her family. As a young girl Jean’s uncle and aunt, that lived down the street from her, took her to the neighborhood church where they were having a revival and she gave her life to Jesus that night. Throughout her years of walking with God she fell more and more in love with Him.…her life was forever changed by her love for Jesus. She loved to sing and worship in Church; it was common to see her swaying to the music while joyously clapping her hands and lifting them up to praise. Throughout her life she worked a variety of Jobs: from a retail store where she sold women’s nylons to using her gift of sales, to sell fireplaces in California. She finished her time in the workplace with a job in data processing at the First National Bank of Amarillo. Jean had a knack for being creative, she loved to sew, make jewelry and paint. In addition to being crafty she could cut a rug on the dance floor and bowl a strike with no problem. Jean had two men that swept her off her feet, Jim Manning in 1947 and they welcomed Jimmy and Gay into the world. After Jim’s death she Married Glenn Kirk in 1967 and they welcomed Mark and Dawn. Jean adored her Children and was known for being willing to do anything for them. She was a woman of much generosity whether that meant a cup of coffee or her affection and time. If you spent time around Jean you would feel loved, in her later days if you got too close she would pull you in and lay a kiss or two on your lips or grab your hand and kiss it. Her soft blue eyes welcomed you and expressed the deep affections of her heart for you. We rejoice that today and for all eternity she is at peace, completely healed, and praising the God she loves. Jean is preceded in death by her parents; Raleigh Lee Phipps and Agnes (McDowell) Phipps, her brother Gary Phipps; her sisters Evelyn Tallent and Patsy Ruth Phipps; and her great grandson Cameron. She is survived by her daughters Wrena Gay Larson and Dawn (Eric) Wright; her sons Jim Manning, Jr. and Mark (Andrea) Kirk; her grandchildren Jerry, Leslie, Chris, Bobby, Sarah, James, Shayla, Tim, Teresa and Max; her great grandchildren Jessica, Tucker, Madison, Grace, Eva, Nora, and Justin; and her great great grandchildren Miles and Jasper. Our family invites friends and neighbors who wish to honor our mother to join us on Monday, May 2, 2022 at the Christ United Methodist Church, 3515 S.
