What a lovely and apt remembrance. Thank you, Caitriona.
I don’t suppose there are many folks who get to express their adoration of their ex-mother-in-law, but I am among them. Of course, we always bonded over our love of Robin and our beautiful and wondrous Zea, but it was more than that.
Ruth and I were not just friends—we were lifelong friends. Like all friends, we shared the things we loved, music and poetry and politics and literature and family. But more than that, I always—always--considered Ruth a fountain of Hope and Optimism in a world that does its best to deny those nouns.
It’s not easy now. The void is palpable. But maybe, just maybe, the time is now right for all of us to carry that Hope and Optimism for her, so she can get some rest.
