Obituary of Louis Wilke

Louis Watson Wilke age 79, died unexpectedly on May 11, 2013. He was born December 7, 1933 in Enid, Oklahoma to Maxine Watson Wilke and Louis Gustav Wilke. His father was employed by Phillips 66 and as a child, Lou lived many places including Wichita and Bartlesville. He played basketball, football and graduated from East High School in Denver, Colorado, Class of 1952. Lou attended Duke University and graduated from the University of Oklahoma with a Bachelor's Degree in Business. He was a member of Phi Delta Theta fraternity. He served in the U.S. Army and then attended law school at the University of Tulsa. He lived in Paris for a year exploring the city of lights enjoying the culture and music. Lou was an accomplished pianist and took lessons all his life. Upon his return to the US, he worked for Phillips 66 in Denver and Atlanta. He moved to Los Angeles, worked as a salesman in the petroleum industry for 20 years and then returned to Tulsa. He was a lifelong athlete and an avid sports fan. Lou was a walking encyclopedia of Sooner football. He especially loved the title of "Coach Lou" that was given to him by his niece's high school tennis team. Lou was a friend to many, a good neighbor, cherished big brother and a beloved favorite uncle. He was generous, kind and caring. He is survived by his sister, Marianna Wilke Vesely, and his three nieces, Carrie Henderson (Jason), Sara Peters (Chris) and Katie Huisenga (Derrick) and two great nephews Adam Wilke and Benjamin David Peters. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law William Alan Vesely. Memorial service will be held Friday, May 17 at 2pm at Southminster Presbyterian Church, 3500 South Peoria.
