Obituary of Martha Davis

On March 23, 2013, our beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother, MARTHA ELAINE (Stookesberry) DAVIS joined her Lord and her dear sweet Bob in heaven at the age of 93. She was born March 12, 1920 in Milton, IA, the only daughter and 4th child of Jake M. and Ivy Jane (French) Stookesberry. Elaine attended Parsons College, Fairfield, IA where she met and later married Robert A. (Bob) Davis. After graduation in 1942, she taught school and coached girls' basketball while Bob served in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific theater during World War II. Elaine and Bob were married upon his return on May 30, 1945 in her parents' home in Albia, IA. They moved to Port Deposit, MD where Bob completed his service duties. While there, their two children, Pamela Jolene (Pam) and Barry Robert (Barry), were born.
In 1950, the family moved to Tulsa, OK where Elaine and Bob made their home for over 50 years. In addition to raising her family, Elaine continued her teaching career, serving in public education for over 20 years, first at William Penn Elementary and then at Eli Whitney Junior High. During those years she used her considerable creative talents to direct school plays, write and direct church programs, and author a book about the Stookesberry family. She also served as a Deaconess and Elder at First Christian Church where she remained active until 2009 when she moved to Dallas, TX to be closer to family.
Elaine is survived by: her children, Pam Day and husband Jim of Dallas, TX and Barry Davis and wife, Sheron of Edmond, OK; her grandchildren, Kimberly Tryon, Robert Triplett, III and wife Bebe, Shannon Raglin and husband Josh , Jared Davis, Jaclyn Rowland and husband Brian, and Jenny Gebhardt and husband Graham; and her 9 great grandchildren, Taylor, Jacob and Zachary Tryon, Madison and Robert Triplett, Caroline and Brandon Raglin, and Austin and Avery Rowland. In addition to her parents and brothers, she was preceded in death by her husband, Bob, on March 17, 2001.
Visitation will be held 2:00 - 5:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Ninde Brookside Funeral Home. Funeral will be held 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at Memorial Park Cemetery Chapel. In lieu of flowers, gifts in Elaine's memory may be made to First Christian Church, 913 S. Boulder Ave, Tulsa, OK 74119 or the Alzheimer's Association (www.alz.org).
