Obituary of Mary Elizabeth Milbourn
Mary Elizabeth Milbourn was born on May 24, 1914 in Colorado Springs, CO to Dolph and Zada (James) Hornbuckle. Mary passed from this life on Monday, April 30, 2018 at the age of 103.
At the age of 6, Mary moved with her family to Albany, MO where she grew up. She graduated from Albany High School and then attended Chillicothe Business College in Chillicothe, MO. In college, Mary excelled at basketball, earning two gold trophy basketballs for her play.
She married her college sweetheart, Raymond Wayne Milbourn of El Dorado, KS, while both were still in college, on October 13, 1933. After graduation, Mary and Wayne moved to Lyons, KS where Wayne was employed by The Ohio Oil Company and where their only child, Marilyn Joyce, was born. In 1940 the family moved to Tulsa, OK where they made their home.
Mary loved sewing, cooking, gardening, flowers and was especially fond of her small tomato patches and her beloved cat, Tuffy. She was a longtime member of First Presbyterian Church. She was a devoted grandmother and was affectionately known as “Nana” to her family of grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Wayne and her sister, Kathleen Judah.
Survivors include her daughter, Marilyn Harney and her husband, Dr. Ned T. Harney of Tulsa; sister, Carol Parks and her husband, Clark of St. Louis, MO; four grandchildren, Melanie English and her husband, John of Broken Arrow, Angela Lindsay and her husband, David of Tulsa, Ned Trevor Harney II of Tulsa, Lisa Shepler and her husband, Timothy of Birmingham, AL. She is also survived by great grandchildren, Christy Mather and husband, Todd, Michael English and his wife, Dr. Nikki, Lyndie Mather and her husband, Sam, Amy Wilson, Amanda Wilson, Ryan Shepler and Haley Shepler and great great-grandchildren, Jackson Mather, Piper Mather, Lucy Mather, Charles Mather, William Mather, Henry Mather and Isabella Mather.
The family will receive friends 5-7PM Thursday at the Ninde Brookside Funeral Home. Graveside service 2:30 P.M. Friday, May 4th at Memorial Park Cemetery.
