Obituary of Barbara Sue Black
Barbara Black was born in Tulsa, OK to Guinevere (Crippin) James and Willard James on December 9, 1930. Barbara passed away on Friday, March 2, 2018 at the age of 87.
After graduating from Central High School in 1948, she attended Tulsa Business College and went to work at American Airlines. As a wife and mother, Barbara was very involved in her three children’s activities where she was the President of Tulsa Jr. Athletic Assoc., PTA, Girls Scouts of America and the Boy Scouts of America.
In 1976, Barbara became a member of the Children’s Medical Center Auxiliary, which was the beneficiary of the Roy Clark Golf Classic. Barbara then became a member of the tournament office staff. In 1978, she became the Director of the Roy Clark Golf Classic for the next 5 years. She was in charge of a 52 member playing field bringing in 60 celebrities and turning over $250,000 per year from the Tournament to the Children’s Medical Center.
In 1996, Barbara went to work at the Service Center for Tulsa Public Schools as the Special Events Planner in the Public Relations department. She retired from TPS in 2005.
In 2004, Barbara married William Black and they were married until Bill’s death in 2017.
Barbara was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her two sisters Shirley Graves of Cypress, TX and Darlene Ives of Broken Arrow, OK; her children, daughter, Janet Royall and husband, Jim Royall of Tulsa, OK, daughter, Teresa Orr and husband, Gary Orr of Owasso, OK, and son, Greg Everage and wife, Laura Everage of Mill Valley, CA. She is also survived by 7 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
Memorial service 2:00 P.M. Saturday, March 17th at the Ninde Brookside Chapel, 3841 S. Peoria, Tulsa, OK.
