Obituary of Irene Evelyn Pappas

Irene Evelyn Pappas passed peacefully on Friday, November 6, 2015, at the age of 67. Irene was born on June 11, 1948 to Charles William Cramer and Ruth Elizabeth (McMinn) Cramer in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Irene graduated from Allegheny High School and Duquesne University (Education); University of Tulsa (Nursing); and University of Oklahoma (M.S. Nursing). She served in the U.S. Air Force from 1972 to 1976 achieving the rank of sergeant, serving in the U.S. and Germany. Irene has worked in numerous hospitals in Tulsa and the surrounding area, the last two being Hillcrest Healthcare in Tulsa and Capella Healthcare in Muskogee. She has taught nursing at Langston University-Tulsa campus and Oklahoma Wesleyan University-Tulsa campus. Irene is survived by her husband, Louis; her daughter Elizabeth; her three grandchildren, Jonathan Pappas, Jasmine Welborn and Jordan Johnson, all in Tulsa; and her sister and brother Charlotte Cramer and Charles Cramer, respectively, both of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Irene was totally committed to her family, faith, friends, the nursing profession, and her nursing students. Her energy and compassion for others will be remembered by all who knew her. The family extends its thanks to all the medical professionals and their staffs at Hillcrest Healthcare and Capella Healthcare and in the Tulsa medical community for their dedicated, outstanding and compassionate care for Irene. Trisagion 7PM Monday and funeral liturgy 10 AM Tuesday both at St. Antony Orthodox Christian Church with burial to follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Irene’s memory to St. Antony Orthodox Christian Church, 2645 E. 6th St., Tulsa, OK 74104.
