Obituary of Bessie Leah Woods

Bessie Leah “Betty” Woods was born on February 26, 1922 at the family farm near Miami, TX to Clarence Elmer Finch and Della May (Russell) Finch. Betty passed from this life on Sunday, November 1, 2015 in Tulsa, OK at the age of 93.
She played on the girls basketball team and graduated from Miami High School in 1939. She loved to go to Cow Call every summer which was a major event in Miami. After school she moved to Dallas, TX met and married Charles P. Woods who was an Army Air Force pilot during World War II. She loved to bowl and taught ballroom dancing at Arthur Murray’s Studio. Her marriage ended in divorce. She managed apartments in Dallas and worked in retail clothing sales until moving to Amarillo to be close to family. She owned and operated her own candle shop and gift store. She then moved to Dillon, CO to be with her daughter and son-in-law and worked at their restaurant. She moved with family to Grand Junction, CO and was active in her church. She then moved with family to Tulsa in 2005. Since then she became an active independent senior until her recent illness.
Betty was preceded by parents and her brothers and sisters. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Gerry and Fred Handy of Jenks; 2 grandchildren, Duane and Daryl Handy and 3 great-grandchildren, Alex, Courtney and Chandler Handy.
Graveside service 2:30 P.M. Thursday, November 5, 2015 Roberts County Cemetery in Miami, TX.
