Obituary of Daniel Jacob Whitfield

Daniel Jacob Whitfield was born May 18, 1989 in Tulsa, Oklahoma to Sheila and Tracy Whitfield. He danced his way into heaven on Saturday, October 24, 2015 at home in Sapulpa, Oklahoma. Daniel’s formative years began in Glenpool, OK. He started dance lessons at The Patti Parrish School of dance at the age of 4. This was the awakening of Daniel’s creative spirit. He won numerous trophies, awards and scholarships and was recognized on the local, state and national level as an award winning performer. Through the Dance Master of America Organization, he held the title of Master Dance of Oklahoma; Jr. Mr. Dance of Oklahoma and Fourth Runner Up to the National Jr. Dance of America. He later joined the Cheer Dynamics Dance Team (Jammin Jags) and co-ed cheer team. Daniel attended Glenpool Public School but transferred to Jenks High School in order to participate in their arts department. He performed in the following plays and musicals while there; There’s Something About Ernest, Anne of Savannah, Seussical the Musical and The Boyfriend. Daniel used his drama and dance skills by participating in local theatre. He was cast in Anna Karenina, A Christmas Carol, Tulsa Ballet’s The Nutcracker, Beauty and the Beast and The Diary of Anne Frank. Daniel graduated from Jenks High School in 2007. Leaving Glenpool and Jenks in his rearview mirror, Daniel moved to Savannah, Georgia to attend Savannah College of Art & Design. He received his BA in Fashion Management & Marketing with a minor in Fashion Design in 2011. From Savannah, Daniel ventured to New York City, a life long dream of his, but his health issues brought him back to Oklahoma where he attended and graduated from the Paul Mitchell School. Recently he was working on his alternative teaching certification and was looking forward to writing a new chapter in his book of life. Daniel cherished time spent with his family and friends and was a bright light to all who crossed paths with him. He is survived by his parents, Tracy and Sheila Whitfield of Sapulpa; his sister and brother-in-law, Aubrey and Nathan Watts and their son, James Watts of Sapulpa; his life partner, Zac Dean of Sapulpa; his grandparents, Bob and Sharimon Forrest of Dustin, OK, Don and Darlene Whitfield of Tulsa, OK, Deanna Hamrick of Jenks, OK and Terry Handshy of Moore, OK and many beloved friends and relatives. Memorial service 4:00 P.M. Thursday St. James Presbyterian Church, 11970 S. Elm, Jenks, OK. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Daniel’s memory to The Daniel Whitfield Dance Scholarship Fund c/o Oklahoma Central Credit Union, 8075 S. Olympia Ave. West, Tulsa, OK 74132.
