Obituary of Betty L. Simpson

Betty L. “Scottie” Simpson was born July 27, 1924 near Cromwell, OK. She was the oldest of four children of Marion F. and Mabel (Roberts) O'Kelly. Scottie's family followed their father's work in the oil fields and she graduated from Okemah, OK High School. After high school, Scottie moved to Tulsa and attended Draughon School of Business and went to work for Sinclair Oil Co. While at Sinclair, Scottie went on a blind date at the Playmore Ballroom in Tulsa where she met Ralph Simpson for the first time. They were married in May 1947 and began their life together. Ralph's work took them to Denver and Detroit before returning to Tulsa in 1972. Betty worked for Renberg’s stores downtown and in Southroads Mall where she proved to be a wonderful representative and a gifted salesperson. She filled her free time creating beaded jewelry and reading, but her favorite activities were always her family and friends. Before Facebook and Twitter, there was Scottie. She never met a stranger, never forgot a face, and never allowed a birthday to go unacknowledged. She was truly the matriarch of her family. Her pride was her family and her home. Her coffee pot was always full, her house was always prepared for company, her face was always smiling, and her heart was always open to one and all. Scottie passed away on March 8, 2015 in Tulsa at the age of 90. She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Sherra Lee Padilla; brother, Patric O'Kelly; and son, Ron Simpson. She is survived by her husband of 68 years, Ralph; sons, Randy, Rob and Bill Simpson; four grandchildren; and three great grandchildren.
