Obituary of Donald Crowl

Please share a memory of Donald to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Donald E. Crowl died Monday, November 14, at the age of 72 after a short battle with cancer. At his side was his loving wife of 53 years, Iva Jean. Don was born and raised in Wichita, Kansas. He graduated from Wichita State University with a B.A. degree in Sociology and Psychology. Following graduation, he worked for the Polk County Iowa Juvenile Court as a probation officer in Des Moines, Iowa for five years. In 1965, Donald was sworn in as an agent of the United States Secret Service, a career he enjoyed for the next 25 years. He served at the White House and Secret Service heardquarters, protecting six Presidents of The United States beginning with Lyndon B. Johnson and concluding with George H. W. Bush. Upon completion of his White House detail in 1974, he was transferred and promoted to Resident Agent in Charge of the Tulsa, Oklahoma office, where he finished his career, retiring in March 1990. Upon retirement from the Secret Service, President Bush appointed Don United States Marshal for the Northern District of Oklahoma, headquartered in Tulsa. He served a four year term, retiring in February, 1994. Don was a community leader and had many affiliations: the Oklahoma Sheriff and Peace Officers Association, the Association of Former Agents of The United States Secret Service, Kiwanis, and Tulsa Executives Association. He was a charter member of Sigma Phi Epsilon - Eta Chapter and a Miss Oklahoma judge for several years (quote "somebody's got to do it"). He loved stamp collecting, and barbershop quartet harmony. He became a certified judge in the Barbershop Harmony Society (SPEBSQSA), traveling the country judging contestants. He also belonged to the Tulsa Founders Chorus, and Music Central Chorus. A lifelong St. Louis Cardinals fan, Don was able to attend a NLCS game with his son, Doug, and was thrilled to see his team win the World Series this October! Don and his wife, Iva Jean, are members of Boston Avenue Methodist Church, and are the parents of three children, David and Doug of Tulsa, and Donna Woodall of Arlington, Tennessee. They have six precious grandchildren. Visitation will be 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. Thursday, November 17 at Ninde Brookside. Memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, November 18 at Asbury Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to The Center For Individuals With Physical Challenges, 815 S. Utica Ave., Tulsa 74104.
