Reflections of Life
On May 2, 1936, a beautiful baby girl was born to Stafford and Lonnie Mae Matthews in Tullahassee, OK. They named her Mayola. She was educated at and received her diploma from Carter G. Woodson High School, Tullahassee, in 1954.
Mayola was baptized at an early age. After moving to Tulsa, she joined First Baptist Church North Tulsa under the pastorate of the late Rev. LeRoy K. Jordan and remained a faithful member until her death. Over her many years of faithful service, she was an active member of the Kitchen Ministry and the Jobie Holderness Circle. Mayola always looked forward to working in the kitchen during Vacation Bible School and Wednesday Night activities. She enjoyed crossword puzzles, crotcheting, and being with her family.
Housekeeping was her profession but it was more than just a job to her. She loved and cared for the John Sargent Family for many years. Most recently, she served as a cook at the Bundle of Joy Learning Center.
Her mother, father, and her eldest son Edwin, preceded her in death.
She went home peacefully to be with the Lord on Friday, October 12th @ 5:31 p.m.
She leaves to cherish her memory: daughters A. Machelle Cavanaugh and Lorraine King; sons Martin, Roderick, and Darryle all of Tulsa, OK. A sister, Anita (Chris) Douglas; aunt, Leola Tibbs; 10 grandchildren, 6 great-grand children, a niece, a nephew, a host of cousins and other extended family and friends.
