Obituary of Virginia Pierce

Virginia Marguerite (Luneke) Pierce, 93, passed away Wednesday, June 22, 2011. Virginia was born September 10, 1917 in Dayton, Ohio. She was the daughter of Walter Elmer Luneke and Anne Dunlap Luneke. After her graduation from High School in Dayton, Ohio Virginia moved to Chicago, IL to live with her aunt and uncle and began her working career. There she met the Love of her life, Dean Sanford Pierce. They were married November 20, 1937 in Valpariso, IN. They then moved to Pawhuska, OK where Dean had his first practice of Optometry. In 1941 they moved to Tulsa, OK. Virginia was busy making a loving home for her family. She was a wonderful cook and family always came first. Virginia loved playing Bridge, belonging to many Bridge Clubs. Also she belonged to Garden Clubs, Investment Clubs and Tulsa MRS. Club which she served as President. Virginia volunteered with the Auxiliary of St. Johns Hospital for many years. She was an avid reader of books and had her own library. Virginia was always very active in her Church and is a member of New Haven United Methodist Church. Virginia and Dean were members of The Oaks Country Club for many years. Virginia was preceded in death by her husband, Dean, of 66 years and her sister Delores. She is survived by her four children; Barbara Barrett of Tulsa, Sanford Pierce of Tulsa, Douglas Pierce of Tulsa and Susan Thompson of Ft. Gibson. Virginia has nine grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren. Following a private committal at Memorial Park Cemetery a memorial service will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the New Haven United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations be made to New Haven United Methodist Church, 5603 S. New Haven Ave, Tulsa, OK 74135 or to Animal Rescue Foundation, P.O. Box 471483, Tulsa, OK 74147.
