Obituary of Herman Avery

Herman Nelson Avery. Born February 23, 1925 he went home to be with the Lord on September 8, 2012 at 87 years old. Son of Rol & Julia (Sarah) Avery. Herman was the youngest of nine boys. He was a lifetime resident of Tulsa, Oklahoma. He was born and raised through the Depression and Dust Bowl Era. He was a veteran of World War II and served in the US Army. On September 3, 1954 he was wed to Gayle Larraine Avery whom he adored, cherished and loved unconditionally. They had just celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary. Herman celebrated life in the simple pleasures and he lived a full and fruitful life.
He is survived by his wife and two children, Rol Avery of Broken Arrow and Julie Avery of Tulsa, whom he also loved unconditionally. Herman and Gayle have five grandchildren; Alicia, Dustin, Chad, Caitlin and Zach. In addition there are three great grandchildren; Blaine, Adam and Paige. Herman was a positive role model and excellent example of a loving husband and father. He retired as a welder from American Airlines in 1984 with 32 years of service. He was a God fearing & God loving man. He read his Bible and prayed every day. He had experienced the arms of God wrapped around him in comfort. Herman loved the outdoors, fishing, hunting and gardening. Herman loved all the little children; he had a very kind soul. He was a giving person. He never turned down an opportunity to help a neighbor, friend or relative. Herman loved people, he was soft spoken, he never cursed. For many years mom and dad enjoyed touring on the week long Oklahoma Freewheel bike rides. Mom & dad loved to travel & visit many of the local festivals & events throughout Oklahoma. In his latter years, he was a resident of Leisure Village Nursing Center.
Herman will lie in state Wednesday from 10-8 p.m. with the family receiving friends from 5-7 p.m. at the Ninde Brookside Funeral Home. His funeral will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday at Memorial Park Cemetery Chapel with full military rites provided by VFW District 5 Honor Squad.
