Joe Brooks age 66, passed away at his home in Broken Arrow on Friday morning surrounded by his family. Joe Wayne Brooks was born August 14,1944 in Panama City, FL to James Roland and Connie Elizabeth (Dunn) Brooks. He passed away Friday, April 22, 2011 at the age of 66. He was raised in Pauls Valley, OK, where he made many wonderful life long friends. He attended Pauls Valley High School, where he played football, basketball, baseball, and did shot-put. Joe was selected as an all-state tackle in 1961, his senior year and graduated in 1962. Joe moved to Tulsa to attend The University of Tulsa, where he played football as an offensive and defensive tackle. He saw the Hurricanes set many records that still stand in college football today. In 1964 they won the Blue Bonnet Bowl with a repeat appearance in 1965. He graduated from the University of Tulsa in 1967. Joe was drafted by the Denver Broncos, of the AFL, and played on the offensive line. Joe returned to Tulsa in 1969, where he met his wife, Maralea Ann (Sawyer) Brooks. Joe and Maralea married December 24th, 1971 and settled in Broken Arrow after having their first child. Joe worked in the mortgage banking industry for 22 years and finished his working career working for HUD for 21 years. Joe was the president of the Young Men's club of Tulsa and on the Board of Directors for Mortgage Bankers Association. He volunteered for the Homebuilders of Tulsa Home and Garden show, putting in thousands of hours setting up and breaking down the show for over 20year. Joe is survived by Maralea Ann Brooks, his wife for 39 years. His children and their spouses, Joseph Matthew Brooks and Alice, Jeffrey Wayne Brooks and Jessica, Jonathon Andrew Brooks and Whitney, and Jessica Nichole Brooks. Also surviving him are his mother - Connie Elizabeth Brooks, sister - Roberta Ruth Bittner, and brother - James Connlley Brooks. His loving grandchildren, James Dylan Brooks, Jacob Riley Brooks, Jaden Matthew Brooks, Zoey Nichole Brooks, Alyssa Ann Brooks, and many nieces, nephews. Joe was a wonderful husband, son, brother, father and Papa Joe. His presence will be greatly missed BEE-BOPPIN, BABBLIN, BUBBLIN, BLUNDERIN, BROOKSY NUMBER 75 IN OUR PROGRAM NUMBER ONE IN OUR HEARTS The family will be receiving friends at a reception following the memorial service in the lobby of the Ninde Brookside Funeral Home.
