Obituary of Marjorie Tidwell

Please share a memory of Marjorie to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Marjorie A. Tidwell was born December 5, 1913 in New Martinsville, WV to Charles Talbot and Paris (Robinson) McMunn. She passed peacefully from this life Tuesday, April 19, 2011 at the age of 97. Marjorie moved with her family to Tulsa in 1930 at the age of 17. She attended Tulsa schools, was a 1931 graduate of Tulsa Central High School and attended The University of Tulsa. Marjorie met John Walter Tidwell, Jr. and they were married in Tulsa on December 28, 1943 at First Presbyterian Church by the Reverend Dr. Edmund Miller. To this union was born one son, Michael Lee Tidwell on June 29, 1948. She and "Dubby" as John was known, spent much time traveling the world: Hong Kong, Egypt, traveling on the Queen Mary and vacations to Europe. Marjorie was a long-time member of First Presbyterian Church where she served as Deaconess. Likewise, she volunteered for many organizations over the years, including the Tulsa Boy's Home and chaired many events such as the Red Glove Revue, benefitting the Cerebral Palsy Association. "Maga" as she was affectionately known by everyone who knew her, loved the lake. Whether she was spending time at Spavinaw, the Tulsa Anchorage Club, Ft Gibson or the family's second home at Grand Lake, she was always at peace near the water. The family loved spending time boating, swimming, fishing or enjoying great dinners together. Those are the times that we will remember most fondly. Maga always had a quick compliment but was never afraid to tell you what she thought - consequently, we will miss that honesty too. Marjorie was preceded in death by her husband of 32 years, John W. Tidwell, Jr. in 1978 and her sisters, Imogene Tuttle and Lou Ellen Weill. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Shari Tidwell; four grandchildren, John Michael Tidwell and his wife, Courtnie, David Lee Tidwell and Emily Ferguson, Taylor Tidwell Saunders and her husband, Shane and Mary Clare Tidwell; one great grandchild, Bayard McConnell Saunders all of Tulsa; nieces, Marjorie Lou Gwartney of Claremore and Robbie Lynn Patterson of Newport Beach; and a nephew, Mac Weill of Beaufort, SC. Marjorie 's pallbearers will be Terry Gartside, Mark Robins, Ron McGill and John Sullivan, M.C. The family will receive friends from 5-7:00 p.m. Sunday at Ninde Brookside Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held 10:00 a.m. Monday, April 25, 2011 at the First Presbyterian Church, Kerr Chapel. In lieu of flowers, friends may contribute in Marjorie's memory to the Cascia Hall Alumni Association, 2520 S. Yorktown Ave., Tulsa, OK 74114.
