Hey Dad,
Just came by to look at some pictures. Lord knows you hated them but I’m glad there are some here! I miss you so much and wish I could hear your voice telling me to stop trying to beat the system lol! I love you dad and I miss you! Mom misses you too and Thanksgiving is always hard as that was your favorite holiday. (Turkey hasn’t been the same either JUST FYI!) lol! Christmas is coming and then the 10 year anniversary of your passing. Crazy it’s been that long and still feels like it just happened. I love you and wish you could see your grandson! He looks just like you! Although I know you can, I wish you were here to teach him about cars, how to ride a motorcycle, and float down the river. I really miss you dad and I love you!!!❤️ Ps I picked the dart board Bc you always loved to play darts lol!

It was spring 1970 and we had planned a day of trail-riding at Sparrow Hawk Mountain on the Illinois River. Being a little over anxious, Steve didn't clean out his Kawasaki Bighorn before starting the climb. When it caught rpms the bike got away from him and looped out breaking off the clutch perch. Our ride looked to be over. Three weeks in the planning and we were headed back to Tahlequah after a spirited less than one minute ride, or so we thought. Just as we were entering the city we saw, much to our amazement, that the local cycle shop, J & J Suzuki, was open. Swinging in, Steve bought a universal perch and we were back in business. They told us the shop was open only long enough for them to load their bikes as they were heading up to Locust Grove to a motocross race. We asked them to explain to us what "motocross" was, and after a little persuasion, we found ourselves following their trailer to the track. Gate fee was $2 and we were told that if we paid an additional $1 and signed a waiver, we could get out on the track. We were giggling like a couple of little girls over what we were doing and what our wife/girlfriend thought we were doing that day. The track was fun! And actually we were going pretty well around it. For and additional $2 we entered the first motocross race that we had ever seen. At the end of the day after three hard fought motos, we finished 2nd and 3rd place. We were hooked. Over the next couple of years Steve and I traveled to a number of different tracks in pursuit of our new found hobby. Every race was a new adventure and Steve approached each one with enthusiasm and optimism. He found pleasure in seeing other people smile. He was always a gentleman and a fierce competitor. So many experiences we shared together...it doesn't seem that long ago. So very sorry to hear of his passing. May God bless his precious family and may they live life as he raced...full throttle with a smile on their faces. Larry & Linda Shope

My prayer is for the loved ones in grief right now. There is a hole in each heart that can be filled with the love of God. He is our comforter. Jesus wept. We comfort each other and our memories will be shared for years to come. Steve will never be forgotten. We all loved him in our own way. He was unique.

My thoughts and prayers are with Rebecca, Hannah, Scott, Laurel and the rest of the family. My heart is with them during their time of need. Steve was great man, a hard worker, but most importantly a wonderufl husband and father. He thought me many things about the outdoors during my time knowing him, only like a second father. You will be greatly missed Steve.

OMG! Where do I start! Steve was the brother I never had! He started dating my sister Rebecca when she was 15 years old living three doors down the street. That made me 12 years old when Steve first came into my life! Rebecca and I shared a bedroom and Steve would come and throw rocks at the bedroom window late at night so Rebecca would open the window and start talking to him. True Love!!! I remember Rebecca would have her hair rolled on orange juice cans to make it straight and full of body. The things we used to do before all the straighteners and blow dryers were invented! I would always threaten to go tell Mom and Dad, and then Steve would so smoothly charm me into not telling and offering me a ride in the back seat of his Chevelle for the next rocket rally! Needless to say, I got that seat for MANY rallies!!! He gave me a job at the motorcycle shop, and showed me how to ride a motorcycle! What fun we had there! Ether fights and riding motorcycles in winter with all the snow gear! It was an era that will never be repeated except for only in the memories of my mind. We were free, took risks, had a blast, and that was only the beginning....There were motocross races in Nebraska, rides in the Porsche, teaching me to waterski, and road trips to Tahlequah with bands such as Boston, Fleetwood Mac, Grass Roots, Three Dog Night, etc. etc., blaring in the van. He taught me how to wash a car, change the oil, and float in a canoe. He lived life to the fullest and Mannnnnnnn I will always love him! I am so thankful we went to the Fleetwood Mac Farewell Tour in 2009! I still picture Steve telling Mic to go suck some oxygen so he could do the next drum set! It was a farewell memory I will never forget! Till we meet again my Brother now and forever! Monie

I have been very good friends with Scott, Steve's son, for at least 18 years. Early on in high school, Scott taught me the art of detailing and keeping up your vehicle (an art that Steve taught Scott). I remember spending hours and hours on my first vehicle in his driveway when I was 16 along with Scott. Now, Steve always had a mirror finish on his vehicles and was, in our eyes, the benchmark of detailing so getting his input on how good we did was important. When he came out to look, the first thing he did was ran his finger under the wheel well and showed Scott and I his dirty finger and said "huh" and walked away. It may seem strange, but that was good motivation for me to do the absolute best not only on the vehicle, but also at anything else we did. We always wanted our cars to be as shiney and clean as Steves. To this day, when I clean my vehicles I always make sure that spot is clean. Steve will be sorely missed.

To Jim and I, Steve and Rebecca were like the cool, fun older siblings. We had some really, really great times together. I first met Steve when I was 16 and started dating Jim and I eventually joined the Maxwell clan (Scottie was just a little guy). I remember that yellow van - "Transportation" - and boy was it cool! Motorcycles, cars, playing pool or foosball, listing to old rock. We even still have the Honda CBX that Steve sold Bob when they first became friends. So many road trips, so much fun, so many laughs. I remember how excited Bob & Nell were to get to go to Hawaii with Steve & Rebecca and they still talk about that trip to this day. Words cannot express how much we love the Parkhursts and how much we will miss Steve. God bless. Lori Maxwell

Steve Parkhurst was a charmer. He wooed my daughter Rebecca from the day we moved 2 doors down from him in 1963. He drove us crazy driving that scooter up and down the street to get her attention. They fell in love as childhood sweethearts and were married in 1972. 39 years together.. I loved that man!!

I am going to miss Steve very much. Steve and I had over 30 years of fun being friends with Steve. We raced together, played golf together, went to races together and took care of friends together. I will never forget when Steve had the Honda dealership and we would go to the warehouse to race mini bikes with Gary and James. That was some crazy times and he enjoyed doing thinks his own way. If we could do it again we would have. Steve was a great friend and always helped other with their problems and head aches without thinking. I am sure his family will miss him greatly and rightly so. He was there for all of us when we needed his help and he was never scared hard work or a tough challenge and would always get the job done.
I will miss Steve every Monday when we went golfing in the summer more than anyone will know. Steve was as good of a friend anyone could have. I know we will get our chance to play golf again one day. I will miss you Steve.
