Obituary of Richard Clary

Richard D. "Dick" Clary, Sr. was born May 21, 1932 in Auburn, New York the son of Dr. and Mrs. Austin Clary. Dick died Tuesday, September 7, 2010 at the age of 78. He graduated from The Hill School in Pottstown, Pennsylvania, attended St Bonaventure University in New York. Then transferred to the University of Tulsa, where he was a member of the Men's Varsity Golf Team and graduated in 1956. He served two years in the U.S. Army. Dick married Margaret Mecum of Tulsa in 1957. Dick was the owner and operator of Clary Advertising, Inc. for thirty-five years. He served on the Diocese of Oklahoma Vocations Board, the Boards of the Tulsa Boy's Home and the "On the Bricks" program for released inmates. He was the inaugural Commodore of the Grand Lake Yacht Squadron and was an accomplished sailor. Dick is survived by his wife of fifty-two years, Margaret; their five children, sons Richard David., Jr. and Rebecca of Tulsa, Austin James and Kirsten of Atlanta, Timothy Joseph and Hilary of Dallas, Robert Brennan and Teresa of Tulsa, and daughter Leslie Clary Wagner and husband Thomas of Tulsa; his sister Margaret Gene Clary of Waterloo, New York; and 11 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his three brothers; James Henry, Thomas Austin and John Robert. The family will receive friends from 5-7 pm Thursday at Ninde Brookside Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, September 10th at 10:00 am, at Christ the King Church with interment in Calvary Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice.
