Obituary of Juan Correa

Juan Francisco Correa Dávila, M.D. left this world to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ following a long and courageous struggle with kidney failure. Juan was born on June 24, 1922 in Tlaltenango, Zacatecas State, in Mexico to Luis and Ana (Dávila) Correa. Dr. Correa passed from this life holding the hand of his beloved daughter Laura, who lovingly and courageously supported him to the gates of heaven. He had been surrounded by all of his grandchildren and great grandchildren in the days leading to his passing on August 2, 2012 at the age of 90.
Juan received his Medical Degree at the Universidad de Nacional Autonoma in 1952. He had been recruited by the State of Oklahoma to work at the TB Sanitorium in Talihina Oklahoma in 1960 to provide general medical care there and thus began a long and illustrious medical career in the United States that eventually led him to the Oklahoma Health Sciences Center in Oklahoma City. He specialized and was board certified in Anesthesiology. Juan then became a professor of Anesthesia for the University of Oklahoma, and spent 22 years at the VA Medical Center. He had a passion for education and trained hundreds of medical students and residents not only in the art of Anesthesia but also successfully transmitted to them his love for all of medicine and the life-long commitment to learning that the field of medicine demanded. He retired from the Veterans Administration Hospital system in Oklahoma City in 1991.
He was an active member of Christ Presbyterian Church in Tulsa and many of the professional organizations of medicine and was especially active in the Oklahoma Society of Anesthesiologists.
Juan was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years Estela Bonifant Correa, and his second wife Aurelia Pellicer Correa both beautiful women in his life.
He will be lovingly remembered by his daughter and son-in-law, Laura and Greg Marino, of Tulsa; a sister, Ana Maria Correa, of Puebla, Mexico and a brother, Miguel Correa of Campeche, Mexico; The pride of his life were his four grandsons and their brides, John and Julie Marino of Tulsa, Mark and Tara Marino of San Antonio, Texas, Paul and Lacee Marino of Tulsa, and Christopher and Andrea Marino of San Diego, CA who all called him "Papo"! He always had a big smile for each of his great-grandchildren, Emmarie Kathryn, Ryan James, Owen Michael, Nolan Benjamin, Nealy Grace, Caroline Estele and Leah Rose, and they never hesitated to give him big hugs even to the very end.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Redeemer Presbyterian Church building fund in Tulsa or to the St John Dialysis Center on Xanthus in Tulsa.
A private family service is planned.
