Howard E. Knox was born in Iola, KS on August 21, 1921 to James T.M. & Althea (Brewer) Knox, Jr. and peacefully passed from this life on July 30, 2012 at the age of 90 in Tulsa, OK.
Howard grew up in Tulsa and graduated from Central High School in 1939. He entered military service in the U.S. Navy and left on a medical discharge. He then promptly enlisted in the U.S. Army and was among the first 100 American soldiers to walk on the mainland of Japan following the surrender. Howard was a field statistician in Army Headquarters. After an honorable discharge he graduated from Oklahoma A & M in Stillwater. Howard was the manager of Rochester Photo Supply Company at 4th & Boston in downtown Tulsa and then in 1968 formed Knox Cameras in the South Roads Mall at 41st & Yale in Tulsa. Howard was loved by his family, friends, customers and business associates.
Preceded in death by his parents Howard was survived by his wife, Helen F. Knox of the home; his two sons and daughter-in-laws, John F. Knox and his wife, Rebecca of Tulsa and James H. Knox and his wife Sandy of Broken Arrow; his 5 grandchildren, Eric C. Knox of Broken Arrow, Julia K. Knox-Evans of Broken Arrow, Stephen F. Knox of Tulsa, Callie E. Knox of Tulsa and Jackson W. Knox of Tulsa. Howard will be greatly missed by his grandchildren and his four great grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held 10:00 a.m. Thursday, August 2, 2012 at the Memorial Park Cemetery Chapel with full military rites performed by District 5 VFW Honor Squad.
