Obituary of Eldon Morain

Eldon Morain, beloved husband for 51 years of Lois Morain, passed away suddenly Wednesday, October 4th, 2006. He is preceded in death by his father, Clyde Morain, his mother, Evelyn (Claxton) Morain, his older brother Olen Morain and his youngest sister Ivy Maltbie. He is survived by his wife, Lois; son, Marc Morain and daughter, Désirée Morain, both of Tulsa; sisters, Joan Charles, of Partridge, KS, Devona Johnson, of Marysville, WA and Helen Snay, of Thomas, OK; 2 granddaughters, Caitlin O'Hair and Kristin Morain. He is missed greatly by his wife, children, grandchildren, son-in-law and daughter-in-law as well as his brothers, sisters, brother-in-law, sister-in-law, co-workers, ex co-workers and his numerous golfing buddies. He was the patriarch of his family and could be depended on to solve minor or major problems as well as lend a comforting shoulder. He was a shy and unassuming man who came from a poor background but used the American spirit to rise to the top of his field. He went to college and graduated from Oklahoma State University (at the time, A&M) on the GI bill after volunteering for the Marines and serving his country during the Korean War. In college he majored in Mechanical Engineering. After graduation he proceeded to obtain two Professional Engineering licenses. He spent most of his career as Senior Vice President at Continental Industries located here in Tulsa, and Broken Arrow, Oklahoma but was called on by companies across the U.S. as well as the National Transportation Board to solve difficult engineering problems. In addition, Eldon helped develop the then emerging plastic pipe industry and some of his processes and inventions in this field resulted in patents held by him as well as by his employer, Continental Industries and are still in use today. Besides being able to fix anything that was broken mechanically or electrically, Eldon also became interested in computers and taught himself to dissect and rebuild them. Despite these diversions however, everyone agrees his greatest passion lay in trying to better his golf game. He was an avid golfer who played everyday. Within the last month, he even had achieved his sixth hole-in-one of which he was very pleased. He loved the game so much that upon retirement he took a part-time job at his long-time golf club, Indian Springs Country Club, in the maintenance department. He'd spend his mornings fixing broken irrigation lines or mechanical items but his afternoons would be spent on the course playing the game he loved with his friends. At the club, he was known affectionately as "Feather" for his ability to "feather" a ball into the hole. At the suggestion of his family and friends, he will be buried with his long time and favorite club, an old Spaulding putter. Service 2:00 P.M.
