Obituary of Alice Fenn

Alice M. Fenn, born August 29, 1905, only child of Walter Joseph McGee and Myrtle (Seetin) in Meeker, OK, died July 8, 2006 in Tulsa, OK. Widow of Roger P. Fenn, a music director and educator at the University of Tulsa, and in the Tulsa Public Schools for 38 years. Alice attended Oklahoma University where she worked as a Secretary to the Dean of Education. In 1939 she received a BA at Southwestern State College in Weatherford, OK, with special honors for "Excellence in Scholarship", and was state board certified as a Public School Instrumental and Vocal Music Instructor for grades 1-12. She was a life member of Sigma Alpha Iota music fraternity. For 30 years she served as secretary to four presidents at the University of Tulsa. Alice and Roger were "Mr. and Mrs. Homecoming" at T.U. in 1964. They celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary in 1977. Former deaconess and long-time member of East Side Christian Church, where she sang in the choir Roger directed. After her retirement in 1973 she researched and compiled six genealogies on Roger's and her families. Member of Daughters of the American Revolution, Daughters of Union Veterans of the Civil War, Daughters of American Colonists, and Centenarian Club of OK. Survived by: daughter, Joan and husband Rex Teague of Tulsa, OK; son, Rod Fenn and wife Myrtice (Rowe) of Charlotte, NC; daughter, Mary Ellen and husband, Gene Whiteford of Tulsa, OK; and son, Duane Fenn and wife, Christine (Posvistak) of Schaumburg, IL. Also survived by 13 Grandchildren, 3 Step-Grandchildren, 31 Great Grandchildren, 7 Step-Great -Grandchildren, 12 Great-Great Grandchildren and 1 step- Great-Great Grandchild, all of whom she loved dearly. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to any of the following: The Roger P. Fenn Instrumental Music Scholarship Fund at the University of Tulsa; East Side Christian Church Choir Fund; Grace Hospice of OK; or Clarehouse at 8324 E. 49th Place, Tulsa, OK 74145, or www.clarehouse.org The family will receive friends from 6-8 on Tuesday at Ninde Woodland Chapel, 5757 S. Memorial. Service will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 12, 2006 at the East Side Christian Church, 14th and Indianapolis, with interment to follow in the Memorial Park Cemetery.
