Alvin Ulysses Hunt, 59, of Tulsa died of pancreatic cancer, Friday October 21. He was born October 25, 1949 in Chicago, Illinois to Lucille Cotton and George Hunt.
He was in one of the last group of young men to be drafted into the military in the late 1960s. He served his country during Desert Storm working in Intelligence. He retired from the military in 1992. Just in time to be a stay at home dad his youngest child Corey.
There was never a western that Al didn't like, from Bonanza, to the rifleman, to Cheyenne, he was never happier than when he was watching horses run down a dusty western street. An avid fisherman and hunter, he loved the outdoors. He was a skilled wood worker building most of the furniture in his Lawton home.
Upon moving to Tulsa, he took a job at the Adams Mark Hotel in downtown Tulsa, his Ebullient personality and ready smile was featured on the Adams Mark television commercials and in print ads.
He is survived by his wife Debi; daughter Alaina, a senior at The University of Oklahoma, and Corey, a senior at Union High School. A brother George Western of Decatur Alabama, and Betty Jean Lewis, of Chicago Illinois, niece, Renee Lewis, great nephew Fabian Lewis, Nephew George and Lawanda Western, and great nephew and nieces, Julian, Aaron, Georgetta, George, Phillip and Grace.
Alvin never met a stranger, striking up random conversations with any body about cars, the military and politics. He loved to discuss politics, and would even record CNN.
Alvin graduated from Georgia Military College. He attended The Monument of Faith Church in Chicago and Higher Dimensions here in Tulsa.
Al loved to collect hats that indicated his military service. Recently while dining out with the family at a local restaurant he had on one of those caps. The server had also serviced in the military and they begin discussing their deployments. During the meal several patrons came up and shook Al's hand and thanked him for his military service during desert storm. It was a very evocative moment.
Memorial service will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 26th in the Ninde Woodland Chapel, 5757 S. Memorial.
